How long does a new phone number take to work, and why does it just ring when I call it?

For calls, a new number is normally live within about 30 to 60 seconds after you buy it, point it at your agent and flip the switch. An AI agent itself can be created in about twenty seconds, though you may want time to adjust it. Text messaging is separate: it needs 10DLC (A2P) registration, which takes longer.

If calling a new number just rings or the agent does not answer:

1. Wait a minute or a few minutes and call again. A number tested immediately after purchase may not have finished provisioning with the carrier.
2. Check that the AI agent is turned on (active).
3. In Settings, then Phone, check that the number is turned on and that its destination is set to the agent you want.
4. Try the agent in test mode. If the test call works, the agent itself is set up correctly.
5. If it still does not answer, contact live support.
